Small Steps.

Looking to achieve your goals and push yourself to becoming a healthier more productive person? Yeah me too, let’s look at some steps that I’ve gathered to help us along the way.

First, let’s start by setting some realistic goals, I know this is something we hear all the time, but it’s definitely a powerful beginning step that is important to follow. We need to define our destination, then we can start to pick it apart. Let’s say you want to create a morning routine for your health by setting proper eating habits for the morning. What does that look like for you and how much time do you have in your morning routine? You are going to need to carve out the time and possibly set yourself up the night before. For me, if I want to have a good start to the morning, I need to have a clean kitchen and that means I have to make sure things are clean and organized before I go to bed and I know if it is not, then it will be a set back to my morning routine.

Secondly, we are going to need to start creating some habits, let’s make sure they are good habits. Good habit forming is a powerful tool in shaping our behavior. Try to identify specific actions that align with your goals and turn them into daily habits. Whether that be going for a morning or afternoon walk, choosing to skip the sugar in your coffee, or dedicating time to a particular task that needs your attention, over time habits will begin to add up and you will start to see tasks accomplished.

Next, let’s look at prioritizing consistency over intensity. It’s easy to get caught up in the desire for quick results, but if we want to sustain change, we need to look and being consistent with our routine. Focus on building a routine that you can maintain over a long period of time. Regular, small efforts may yield more lasting results and in time will form your routine and habits.

Now, we can begin to celebrate the small wins. Acknowledge and celebrate every small achievement along the way. Sometimes that can be reaching a fitness milestone, resisting the temptation to sit on the couch instead of grabbing your mat and stretching out on Saturday morning, these small victories will build your confidence and motivation. Do not settle into the ease of the day, let your mind say what it is going to say and then counter it by doing the task you know needs to be done, you will find this will bring a huge feeling of accomplishment once complete.

Trying to achieve higher value for yourself whether it be discipline or a healthier lifestyle doesn’t require drastic measures. By taking small, consistent steps, you can create sustainable habits that will lead you to meaningful change. Remember, this is not just about reaching that goal, recognize that this is about your experience along the way and each small step brings you closer to the lifestyle you are seeking, whatever that may be.
